Horizon 2020, the current european research & innovation framework programme

HORIZON 2020 includes the financing of the European Union's research and innovation, and focuses on three main priorities: scientific excellence, industrial leadership and societal challenges.

Horizon 2020, the European funding programme for research and innovation, has launched its first calls for proposals on Dec. 11, 2013.

  • Horizon 2020 co-funds projects ranging from research up to the first commercial application of innovative solutions. More than ever, the program is directed towards providing practical solutions to address a range of societal challenges. Co-financing rates will range from 70% (to the nearest market projects) up to 100% (for further upstream research projects).
  • Horizon 2020 places a strong emphasis on multidisciplinary projects including, in a collaborative way, a wide range of stakeholders: industry, SMEs, academia, NGOs, associations, consumer associations ...
  • A specific instrument for SMEs to facilitate their access to finance has also been set up.
