Nanotechnologies & nanomaterials in food : assets, risks, perspectives

The work of Toxalim's EnteRisk team is cited in the Center's analysis note #120

  • Nanotechnology, already used in fields such as electronics, aeronautics or medicine, is the subject of ambitious research programs in the field of food.
  • While these technologies offer exciting opportunities for future applications, uncertainties remain about their potential toxicity, creating reluctance and calling for cost / benefit assessments.
  • Beyond the challenges of adapting regulations, challenges remain in terms of control, monitoring and surveillance.

These tensions between technological promises, uncertainties and normative regulation contribute to making "nanos" a new public issue, which this note summarizes the main issues.
