E171 in foostuffs : an identified hazard, a risk to be assessed

A study conducted by Toxalim researchers identified a hazard associated with the absorption of a common food additive, E171, containing 45% TiO2 nanoparticles in its composition.

A study carried out jointly by research teams of Toxalim on the "health" effects of titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles has identified in rats a risk associated with the absorption of a common food additive, E171, comprising 45 % Of TiO2 nanoparticles in its composition.

These results, obtained with several partners in France and Luxembourg, justify subsequent studies of carcinogenesis in rats and human risk assessment.
