Laura Soler-Vasco : the impact of mycotoxins on human and animal health

Laura Soler-Vasco, from Spain to Toulouse, a passionate researcher who studies the toxicity of major and emerging mycotoxins, in order to assess their interaction and identify biomarkers of their toxic effect.

The interview with our colleague Laura Soler-Vasco is available in full on the Intranet of the INRAE Occitanie-Toulouse Centre (Restricted access/In French).

  • Excerpts:

How did you join INRAE?

  • "After my studies in veterinary medicine at the University of Murcia, Spain, I had the opportunity to carry out several postdoctoral stays, including one in France at INRAE Val de Loire. In 2016, I obtained a researcher position at INRAE Toulouse, and I joined the “Biosynthesis & Toxicity of Mycotoxins” team of Toxalim, Research Centre in Food Toxicology".

What is your main mission?

  • "I study the toxic effect of mycotoxins (mainly in the intestine), produced by fungi that can contaminate food for humans and animals. For example, I investigated aflatoxin B1, which can lead to liver cancer."
  • "I work in a really dynamic team. We have multiple international collaborations which allow me to participate in seminars and conferences in Europe and abroad".
